November Story of the Month

The Price of Staying Healthy

If the federal health care subsidies expire, countless hardworking individuals and families in our community will lose access to affordable coverage — with devastating consequences.

Take Carlos, for example. He’s a self-employed handyman in his early fifties who takes pride in supporting his wife and helping care for their two young grandchildren. Thanks to the current subsidies, Carlos pays just $10 a month for his health plan — coverage that allows him to manage his diabetes and chronic back pain so he can keep working.

But if these subsidies disappear, his monthly premium will skyrocket to nearly $540, almost one-third of his total income. That cost is simply out of reach. Without coverage, Carlos would have to forgo essential care, risking his health, his livelihood, and his family’s stability.

At Young & Healthy we are ready to stand with hardworking families like Carlos’s. We can’t control what happens in Washington, D.C., but we can meet this challenge with compassion, empathy and action, helping our community find the care and support it deserves.

At Young and Healthy we have found a simple solution to a complex problem.
