August Story of the Month

One Stop Shop!

A few weeks ago, we welcomed Helen Keller Int’l to our offices and hosted vision clinics for members of our community. The clinics’ volunteer optometrists provide an eye exam, and when needed, patients are given a prescription and fit for eyeglasses all at no cost. Over the two days of these clinics, we were able to help 72 clients, of which 55 walked away with a prescription for glasses that they will receive in a matter of weeks!

One family we were able to serve made a particular impression on us because their story highlights why these clinics can be so critical to local families. The Pattersons are a family of seven, with children ranging in age from 3 to 17 years old. Ordinarily, a family of this size would have trouble scheduling appointments to be seen by an eye care professional all on the same day. But when Mrs. Patterson called Young & Healthy for appointments with the Vision Clinic, our Care Team was happily able to accommodate them on relatively short notice.

On the day of their appointments, six of the children had complete eye exams with four of them needing, and receiving, new glasses at no cost to the family. Everyone was cared for in a matter of hours, which would be nearly impossible with a typical doctor’s office.

Mrs. Patterson expressed such a sense of relief to have all her children seen and cared for before the start of the new school year. We are so happy to be able to host the skilled and caring staff and volunteers of Helen Keller Int’l. Together we can serve our community and make sure we are the one stop shop our clients deserve.

At Young and Healthy we have found a simple solution to a complex problem.

Help us continue to make Pasadena a healthier and happier place for everyone.
