One Step at a Time
The Hernandez family, a close-knit household of eight, has been through unimaginable hardship after losing their home in the devastating Eaton fire. Along with their home, they also had to navigate the displacement of their four children, who attend PUSD schools and were relocated to new schools. Monica, the mother of six, reached out to Young & Healthy for support during this overwhelming time. With their hotel stay nearing its end, she and her husband faced immense challenges in finding stable housing due to the size of their family, leaving them full of anxiety over their uncertain future.
In response, we immediately stepped in to offer assistance, providing grocery and Target gift cards to help meet their basic needs. Monica also enrolled herself and her youngest child in our vision clinic to ensure their well-being. Understanding the urgency of their housing crisis, we connected Monica with Neighborhood Housing Services, shared valuable resources with her, and encouraged her to reach out to 211, an organization dedicated to linking families with county programs.
Thanks to the support of these organizations and the referrals from Young & Healthy, the Hernandez family has found a new place to call home. While their journey is far from over, they are now on the road to rebuilding their lives and recovering from this tragedy one step at a time.
