Turning Barriers into Care
Tamara is a 17-year-old high school senior who needed her wisdom teeth extracted. Her mom turned to Young & Healthy for help. We quickly enrolled Tamara in our Mobile Dental Clinic to explore possible solutions. But Tamara’s case was more complex – her teeth were impacted and required a surgical specialist we no longer have in our volunteer network.
Even with Medi-Cal, the cost was $250 per tooth and did not include sedation, placing safe, necessary care out of reach for her family. Young & Healthy was able to step in and through the Alma Stokes Healing Fund, we were able to cover the cost of Tamara’s surgery and ensure she could receive the care she needed.
Stories like Tamara’s are becoming more common.
