When Advocacy Meets Access
Caring for a child with special needs can make even routine healthcare feel overwhelming. The Diego family has three children, including five-year-old Danny, who has autism. They were referred to Young & Healthy because finding a dentist to treat Danny had become a challenge. We enrolled all three children in our Mobile Dental Clinic. Danny received the individualized, sensitive care he required and successfully completed the dental treatment he needed—just like his brother and sister.
While meeting with the family, they shared that their primary care physician had retired without notifying Medi-Cal, leaving the children without a provider and unable to receive the immunizations required for school. Our Insurance Specialist worked closely with Medi-Cal to have a new doctor assigned, ensuring all three children received their necessary vaccines and could remain on track for school.
Through it all, Danny’s parents remained steadfast advocates for their children. They turned to Young & Healthy as a resource and together we ensured that Danny and his siblings received access to the care and support they deserve.
